A MAJOR road in Bexley has now reopened following a burst water pipe flood. 

The incident happened at the junction of Bourne Road and Manor Road just after 2am on August 12.

The road was closed in both directions as works took place.  

Thames Water previously apologised to customers in the area who experienced no water or lower pressure than normal. 

One fire engine also attended the scene.

The latest statement issued by Bexley Council today (August 16) said: "Thames Water have now completed their works in Bexley High Street and the road is now open."

A spokesperson for Thames Water said on August 12: “We’re sorry to customers experiencing low pressure or no water today following a burst on Bexley High Street this morning.  

“Our engineers were quickly on the scene and have started the repair.  

“We realise how inconvenient this is, especially during such hot weather and we’re doing all we can to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.” 

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: "We were called at 2.04am to a ruptured water main on Bexley High Street and the incident was over for the brigade by 2.55am. 

"One fire engine attended the scene." 

A statement issued by Bexley Council on August 12 said: “A mains water pipe has burst outside 123 Bexley High Street, Bexley DA5 1JX. The burst will affect water supply to some residential homes nearby.

“Thames Water are aware and are delivering bottles of water to residents affected. 

"A road closure is in place at the roundabout by the junction of Bourne Road and Manor Road.

“Thames Water are currently on site waiting for the main to be shut so that work can begin.

“Providing the materials cure in the hot weather, the road will reopen by Monday 15 August.

“Any complaints should be directed to Thames Water 0800 980 8800.”
