A man has been arrested after a member of staff was assaulted by a guest at a hotel in Greenwich.

Police were called to the assault at the Ibis London Greenwich hotel just before 11.20am this morning.

The suspect, a 22-year-old man, suggested he might harm himself if officers approached him.

Police deployed additional resources "as a precaution" while making "efforts to resolve the situation".

Some roads nearby were closed before the man was arrested on suspicion of common assault at around 2.55pm.

The man who was arrested was taken to hospital for assessment.

All roads have been reopened.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "At 11:18hrs on Wednesday, 3 August police were called to a hotel in Stockwell Street, Greenwich following reports that a member of staff had been assaulted by a guest.

"Officers attended to carry out further enquiries.

"The suspect, a 22-year-old man, suggested he might harm himself if officers approached him.

"Additional resources were deployed as a precaution while efforts were made to resolve the situation.

"Some local roads were closed.

"At around 14:55hrs, the man was arrested on suspicion of common assault. 

"All roads have now been reopened.

"The arrested persoon was taken to hospital for assessment."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 11:27am today (3 August) to an incident at the Ibis Hotel, Greenwich.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART).

“A patient was taken to hospital.”
