A driver who displayed a cancelled Blue Badge on two separate occasions has been convicted and ordered to pay a total of £620 in fines and costs.

Mr Hieu Doc Ngo, of Stanway Court in Hackney, displayed the Blue Badge to take advantage of parking concessions that he was not entitled to.

One of the offences took place in Townley Road in Bexleyheath, on December 20, 2021, when Mr Hieu Doc Ngo parked in a disabled bay with a cancelled Blue Badge on display.

Mr Ngo displayed the same badge when he offended for the second time on February 3, 2022 in Arnsberg Way car park in Bexleyheath.

The Blue Badge displayed during these offences, issued by the London Borough of Islington, had previously been cancelled.

Councillor Peter Craske, Bexley's Cabinet Member for Places, said: “I am dismayed to hear of this example of blatant abuse of a scheme set up to assist the disabled members of our community but I am pleased that we have proceeded to prosecution for these two offences.

"We continue to actively enforce the Blue Badge scheme across Bexley to ensure there are adequate parking spaces available for those with disabilities and we will take steps to prosecute any driver caught misusing a Blue Badge.”

Blue Badge misuse is a criminal offence that can lead to prosecution, a fine of up to £1,000 and an order to pay towards the costs of the Council prosecution and a criminal record.
