A man has died after a fire broke out at a care home in Raynes Park.

Firefighters were called to the scene in Blenheim Road on Thursday, April 21 shortly after 1.45am.

The Brigade tackled the fire on the ground floor of a three-storey building where a bedroom was destroyed by the blaze.

London Fire Brigade issued an update on Monday that a man died following this fire.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus carried out multiple evacuations of the building.

Firefighters rescued a man from the room where the fire started, however he was taken to hospital where he later died.

12 people were moved to safety and residents were assessed on the scene by emergency services The fire was over shortly after 4.15am.

Fire crews from New Malden, Wimbledon, Sutton, Mitcham and Tooting fire stations were in attendance.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Met Police.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “Sadly, a man has died following a fire at a care home on Blenheim Road in Raynes Park.

“A bedroom on the ground floor of the three-storey building was completely destroyed by fire.

“Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus carried out multiple evacuations of the building with around 12 people moved to safety.

“Firefighters rescued a man from the affected room, who was taken to hospital where he sadly later died.

“Residents were assessed on scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

“The Brigade was called at 0136 and the incident was over for firefighters by 0416.

“Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from New Malden, Wimbledon, Sutton, Mitcham and Tooting fire stations were in attendance.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.”
