Murdered teenage model Sally Anne Bowman tried to defend herself from a frenzied knife attack a pathologist told the Old Bailey.

The court heard the 18-year-old model had cuts to her arms and hands which could have caused as she tried to protect herself.

Dr Peter Jerreat, who carried out the postmortem examination on Sally Anne's body, said she was most likely first stabbed in the neck from behind.

He also said she would have died within 20 to 30 seconds due to severe blood loss and her attacker was most likely right-handed.

Sally Anne was stabbed seven times including two major wounds that passed through her stomach and exited out the back.

Her body was found by a neighbour in Blenheim Cresent, South Croydon on September 25, 2005.

Chef Mark Dixie, 37, is accused of murdering Sally Anne after a booze and drug fuelled birthday celebration.

He denies murdering Sally Anne but admits having sex with her dead body.

The jury heard how Sally Anne's body was found with her denim skirt rolled up and her bra and knickers missing.

She had been sexually assaulted and concrete was found in her mouth and vagina.

A bloody bra strap was found in her hair.

Four bite marks were found on her body, one on her left check, two on her neck and one to the nipple.

The court also heard statements from neighbours living in Blenheim Crescent on the night Sally Anne was killed.

In a statement Richard Wickes said he spent the night watching a video with his wife before going to bed.

He said: "At 4.15am I was awoken by an anguished scream which I think might have been what are you doing?' followed by the scream.

"I'm sure the words and the scream I heard was a female voice."

The trial continues.
