Police are appealing to find a man after a bus driver was racially abused in Eltham.

The incident happened on Wednesday, January 12 at 12.15am in Eltham High Street.

The driver of the 314 bus route was verbally abused as he was called racist slurs and sworn at by a passenger.

It happened after the driver challenged him when he pressed the emergency exit button on the bus.

The man in the image is wanted by police in connection with the incident, and anyone who recognises him or has information should police on 101 quoting crime reference CRIS 3600880/22.

Detective Chief Inspector Michael Dougall, said: “The Met does not tolerate any form of discrimination or abuse and is committed to working with partners, including TfL, to robustly tackle hate crime by holding offenders to account.”

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Detectives from the Roads and Transport Policing Command are appealing for information after a bus driver endured racial abuse at around 12:15hrs on Wednesday, 12 January on Eltham High Street.

“The driver of a Route 314 bus was verbally abused by a passenger who called him racist slurs and swore at him. This happened when the victim challenged the suspect after he pressed the emergency exit button on the vehicle.

“Anyone who recognises the man or has any information is urged to contact local police by dialling 101 quoting crime reference CRIS 3600880/22.

“Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or tweet @MetCC with any information.
