A yellow warning for thunderstorms has been issued by the Met Office throughout today for London.

The warning has been in place since 10am and lasts until 11.59pm tonight.

The Met Office has said there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with potential damage.

There is also a possibility of cancellations to trains and buses.

It follows last week's heatwave where blazing sunshine shone across the capital as temperatures soared.

Met Office forecast in full:


Rather cloudy start, with early sunshine limited to the far west. Scattered, perhaps thundery showers spreading northeast with a chance of hail and torrential downpours. Some afternoon sunny spells developing, especially towards the far southeast. Less hot than Wednesday. Maximum temperature 26 °C.

Thursday night:

Isolated evening thundery showers remain possible, with heavy downpours and hail, mainly in the northwest. These easing and clearing north by midnight with clear spells developing, perhaps prolonged in places. Minimum temperature 11 °C.


Sunny spells and most parts dry, although the odd shower cannot be completely ruled out. Breezier and cooler than Thursday with temperatures near average for late June. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Breezier through the weekend and into the coming week good spells of sunshine likely. Perhaps the odd shower at times. Temperatures near average or just below for late June.
