A man has been arrested after police found a bag containing wraps of white powder during a search.

Officers were on patrol at around midnight last night when they saw a dark coloured Audi TT speeding along Woolwich Church Street.

Police turned their vehicle around and followed the car onto John Wilson Street where the Audi was found parked outside a block of flats.

The car had its hazard lights on, and the driver was standing at the passenger door placing bottles of alcohol into a black handbag.

One of the bottles of wine was half drunk and the driver allegedly admitted to the officers that he had drunk it an hour prior.

When police requested for a breathalyser to be brought to them, officers in the area said that they had also seen the Audi speeding.

The man was then detained and searched leading to officers finding one wrap of white powder and £540.

A further search uncovered a bag containing a number of wraps of white powder, stacks of cash, a set of scales, a white bowl and a spoon.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug and failure to provide a specimen for analysis.
