A parked minibus has crashed into the building of a school in Tooting after it was hit by a car.

The crash happened outside a primary school in Beclands Road yesterday (June 14) shortly after 8am.

London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service attended the scene.

The driver of the car was treated for shock by ambulance crews.

The incident was over for firefighters shortly before 10am.

Two fire engines from Tooting Fire Station and two fire rescue units from Wimbledon and Heston fire stations were at the scene.

Station Commander Mark Nunan, who was at the scene, said: “The motorist had collided with a parked minibus and it was pushed into part of the school. A neighbouring fence was also damaged.

“Fortunately, due to the time of day, there were no children in the classroom and nobody was hurt.

“Firefighters cordoned off the affected area and made the scene safe. They also carried out salvage work due to a burst pipe within the building.

“Crews liaised with a structural engineer from the council to ensure the building was safe.”

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision outside a primary school on Beclands Road in Tooting.

“A car had collided with a minibus and the minibus was pushed into a school building.

“The driver of the car left the vehicle before the Brigade arrived and was treated on scene for shock by London Ambulance Service crews.

“The Brigade was called at 0802 and the incident was over for firefighters by 0958.

“Two fire engines from Tooting Fire Station and two fire rescue units from Wimbledon and Heston fire stations were at the scene.”
