A man from Orpington needs to raise £6,000 to help save his cat’s life after he was found coughing up blood.

Steven Smith, from Orpington, rushed his cat, Isaac, to the vet two months ago when he noticed he had difficulty breathing.

Isaac had become seriously unwell and was later diagnosed with feline asthma.

Steven, 22, was then told by the vet that Isaac would require surgery that will cost him thousands of pounds.

After seeing how poorly Isaac was, he then started a GoFundMe page to save his life.

Steven said that by telling people about Isaac he hopes to raise enough money to cover his surgery and medical costs.

Steven said: “Initially I thought it was just a little cough. It was nothing to be worried about.

“After waiting a couple of days, I noticed the cough was progressing and I was concerned.

“Then his breathing became erratic.

“After taking him to the vets he was then put on asthma medication.”

Isaac was then put on medication which improved his condition slightly.y

A week later, Steven discovered that Isaac was up all night experiencing further asthma attacks, with more coughing difficulties.

After waking up in the middle of the night, Steven also noticed a pile of blood on the floor which he said was coughed up by Isaac.

After taking Isaac back to the vet, it was found that he had been living with a heart condition since birth.

Steven explained: “After further scans, they noticed a foreign body object in Isaac’s lungs.

“They can’t remove the object as they don’t know what it actually is.

“They said it could be something like cancer but they’re not sure.”

Steven said it's been difficult for Isaac to have an appetite which has seen him drastically lose weight.

He was told Isaac would require surgery which would cost around £4,000 to £5,000.

Steven believes this could figure double if Isaac requires further scans and medication.

After talking to a number of specialists, Steven said Isaac has more chance of survival if he sees private doctors.

He then started a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of the surgery.

Steven said any funds raised that are left over after treatment costs will be donated to an animal charity.

Steven explained: “As it stands, Isaac is okay. He is at home with me and his brother Jett Jett.

“He is comfortable and has not been in discomfort.

“Gradually he is eating more here and there, but he certainly is not his usual self.”

Isaac and his brother Jett Jett were adopted by Steven when they were eight-week-old kittens in 2019.

Steven’s GoFundMe page has currently raised £1,225 with a goal of £6,000.
