Motorists may find their journeys disrupted due to the planned temporary closure of a number of roads across Epping Forest for roadworks.

A notice from Essex County Council in this week’s edition of the Guardian details its intention to shut roads in areas including Epping, Harlow and Loughton as well as other restrictions that may be necessary while works are carried out.

All temporary closure orders, if made, are valid for up to 18 months, but the works will only be carried out at times specified on the one.network website or on signs located at or near the relevant location.

An order is due to come into effect on May 12 authorising the phased temporary closure of Westhall Road / Etheridge Road from its junction with Chigwell Lane to its junction with Willingale Road, a distance of 584m.

A temporary 30mph speed limit will also be introduced on that length of road, together with temporary no waiting, no loading and no stopping measures on both sides of the carriageway.

The alternative route will be via Chigwell Lane, The Broadway, Willingale Road and vice versa.

Another order set to come into force on May 12 is for the phased closure of Fourth Avenue, Harlow, from its junctions with North Gate to its junction with Haydens Road, a distance of 270m.

The diversion will be via Fourth Avenue, A1019, A1025, Third Avenue, A1169 Elizabeth Way, Fourth Avenue and vice versa.

A temporary 30mph speed limit will also be enforced, as will no waiting, no loading and no stopping restrictions.

These additional measures will also apply to a third closure phased notice also due to take effect from May 12.

This is due to apply to the following lengths of road in Harlow:

  • Millersdale / Watersmeet from the junction with Paringdon Road to the end of the highway, a distance of 473m. No diversion route is available.
  • Momples Road from its junction with Howard Way to its junction with First Avenue, a distance of 1311m. The diversion will be via Howard Way, First Avenue and vice versa.

Tower Road, Epping, is due to be closed from May 16 for five days from its junction with High Street to its junction with Lower Swaines, a distance of 565m, for carriageway patching works.

The diversion will be via High Street, Crows Road, Lower Swaines and vice versa.

New water connection works are set to shut Hoe Lane, Nazeing, from 815m north-west of its junction with Betts Lane for a distance of 50m in a north-westerly then south-westerly direction from May 18.

The closure is scheduled to be in place for two weeks and the alternative route will be via Middle Street, Nazeing Common, Betts Lane and vice versa.

A section of Brady Avenue, Loughton, is due to be shut for one day on June 1 for pole replacement works.

The closure will apply from its junction with Goldingham Avenue to its junction with Colderook Lane, a distance of 155m.

The diversion will be via Goldingham Avenue, Burney Drive, Colebrook Lane and vice versa.
