Reading has been known to have many benefits, however most people find it too time consuming to read a book while keeping up with the responsibilities of their everyday lives.  Becoming part of a book club can help people to explore books or genres outside of their comfort zones and the Carnegie Club hosted by Saint Bede’s School is just one example of a local book club to join and learn from.

The club meets once every two weeks to discuss books they have recommended for the other members and inspect the key components of each book to gather a wider understanding of the characters and themes being presented which produces a more fulfilling and enriching experience mainly for those who are hesitant readers. The librarian and creator of the Carnegie Club, Mrs Hill recruits students to be part of the club and picks books based on each member’s reading preference for everyone to read and comment on.

The two week time frame is perfect for challenging everyone to finish the books on time while not adding too much pressure on top of their studies and other duties and many other book clubs have adopted a similar strategy by meeting once a month or whenever all the members are available which provides a relaxed atmosphere, the perfect environment to read in.

With book clubs becoming popular once again, from apps like Fable enabling people from around the world to read together and discuss no matter the distance to clubs being formed even within households, it has never been easier to get into reading and the world of literature.
