A man from Bexleyheath has been fined after attempting to steal a dog in Liverpool.

Chihota Godwell tried to steal a dog to the value of £1,800 on June 22, 2021 in Lower Breck Road.

Godwell, of Madison Street, Bexleyheath, appeared at Liverpool Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates’ Court on March 24, 2022.

He was ordered to pay a £100 fine, £95 costs to fund victim services and prosecution costs of £85.

Godwell, 50, must also comply with a community order, which is a rehabilitation activity requirement, by March 23, 2023.

He must comply with instructions to attend appointments, or to participate in any activity as required by officers, up to a maximum of 30 days.

The attempted theft was committed during a suspended sentence order made at Sefton Magistrates Court on August 13, 2020 for possession of a knife on May 5, 2020.

He admitted to breaching this at the hearing on March 24, 2022 and was fined a further £100.

The total costs of £380 must be paid by April 21, 2022.
