Mother's Day is an international celebration to celebrate those we love.

Celebrations of mothers and motherhood can be traced back to ancient Greeks and the Romans. However, the clearest modern connection to Mother's Day is the early Christian festival known as “mothering Sunday”. This year, in the UK, it was celebrated on Sunday, 27th March, but the dates can vary from country to country.

Mother's Day is not only a day to celebrate and appreciate someone you love, but it is also great for the economy. Aarna Jha, Newstead Wood school, has said “Mother's Day is something we cherish dearly in our family, and we always look forward to spoiling our mum with chocolates and flowers to show our appreciation”.

Companies make special chocolates in the name of Mother's Day and they sell out days before the coveted celebration. Extravagant flower bouquets are skilfully crafted to be bought and given to the special people who deserve them.

Other ways you can celebrate Mother’s Day is by taking them out to a special restaurant and create unforgettable memories. Or you could go to a nice park and enjoy some refreshing ice cream. Baking is always an incredible activity to have fun and just laugh together. You could bake anything! Chocolate chip cookies, red velvet cake, chocolate coated strawberries. The best thing is, you could sit and watch a wonderful movie together whilst devouring all those delicious treats you previously baked.

Mother’s Day can be celebrated in any way, as long as you have fun with your mother and show your appreciation.
