The ever-changing race calendar in Formula 1 sees yet another track added to its arsenal. A new Las Vegas track has been unveiled, set to debut in 2023. It will become the third grand prix held in the United States as the sport gradually grows its interest in North America.

The city-winding track, set to be 3.8 miles long, is one of the many new tracks that have been added over the past 5 years. Interestingly, the new layout won’t be the first time the cars have raced in the city. In 1981 and 1982, the famous Caesar’s Palace casino hosted grand prix in their parking lot. Given the limited space, the track was repetitive and hardly interested anyone meaning after two races it was ultimately scrapped. However, the recently unveiled circuit will include speedy racing down the long straight which passes through the cities’ sites. Yes, the track will run the heart of Las Vegas along the famous Strip.

Despite seeming like an interesting race, some fans are questioning whether or not Formula 1 has sold out, focusing more the money than the racing. In 2009, the Yas Marina track in the UAE was unveiled, though it proved for some dull racing as the track was fiddly, slowing the cars down to manoeuvre around the grand infrastructure. Will Las Vegas have the same fate?  The track is supposedly going to be very narrow, boxing the drivers in and making for some difficult overtakes, which means boring, processional racing.

But perhaps not, maybe the grand prix will be a great success, captivating an ever-growing American audience. First impressions matter, and to many, this will be the first race they witness.
