SEA LIFE London Aquarium is launching exclusive Behind the Scenes Tours during this year’s Easter school holidays.
The South Bank attraction is opening its doors to give visitors the chance to find out what goes on behind the scenes.
Tours will take place from Saturday, April 2 and they’ll give guests the opportunity to learn about the job of the aquarium’s expert Aquarists including how they look after thousands of diverse species.
The tours will be 30-minutes long and they’ll run every hour with guests finding out how the aquarium is run, its current breeding initiatives and SEA LIFE’s global conservation efforts to protect the world’s oceans and its inhabitants from the threat of issues such as climate change.
Tickets for the Behind the Scenes Tours are available to buy and pre-booking is essential.
SEA LIFE London Aquarium’s Behind the Scenes Tours
SEA LIFE London Aquarium’s Behind the Scenes Tours are split into four parts - Babies and Breeding, Feeding and Meal Prep, Handling and Cleaning and Life Support.
Babies and Breeding – Find out what goes into maintaining the largest collection of jellyfish in the UK and learn about the jellyfish breeding programme plus the challenges involved in breeding them.
Feeding and Meal Prep – Guests will watch a video showing Aquarists feeding some of the creatures and will find out what each animal eats, how the food is prepared and ethically sourced to encourage conservation.
Handling and Cleaning – Find out how the creatures and tanks are kept clean.
Life Support - In this part of the tour guests will learn how the Aquarists mix the saltwater for Axolotls and they’ll get to try out their new skills by testing them themselves.
Catherine Pritchard, General Manager at SEA LIFE London Aquarium, said: “If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to care for the amazing creatures here at the London Aquarium then now is your chance to join our expert aquarists for our new Behind the Scenes Tours.
“This is an experience like no other as you’ll be able to learn first-hand what it takes to ensure the smooth day to day running of our aquarium as well as get up close to some of our more unusual creatures. We can’t wait to welcome guests this Easter for a truly fin-tastic school holidays.”
