Everyone has heard of the musical Hamilton, which first opened on Broadway in 2015 it was the most demanded musical. With President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama crediting the musical it gained huge recognition it was up for Emmy awards and Tony awards achieving both again building recognition around the show. Soon after it came to the west end were more people around the world were able to experience this musical for themselves. Lin-Manuel Miranda was the creator of the Musical Hamilton and played a huge part in ensuring there was a creative spin on the story making it contemporary and having a rap element to it. Once he wrote the musical and it was ready to be performed on the stage he took on the main role of Alexander Hamilton. Now the musical has been out for over 6 years, people around the world have watched it, listened to the soundtrack and even made some of the songs trends on social media platforms such as TikTok.

Listening to all the big hits seeing the cast was so inspiring and made us question whether or not to take dance to another level. The best thing for me was the ensemble which was so in the sink and also beautiful to watch. The ensemble is both male and female and is highly talented. Most of them also are understudies for key characters emphasising their talent and versatility.

The attention to detail was amazing, the lighting, the revolve and the set made the show the performance it is. The lighting made certain areas dark and gloomy and other moments were particularly funny. Another aspect that I found was beautiful was the costumes, the kings especially! The ensemble also wore very simplistic costumes but they were adapted to the period in history.

Sadly, running a show through a pandemic is extremely hard and unfortunately due to both injury and covid the show has to be stopped approximately two thirds into the performance. This was devastating and sadly the show couldn’t go on. Although it was disappointing that the show couldn’t be continued it did mean that everyone in the audience was able to get credit to go watch the whole show again.

A perk of my evening would have to be going to the stage door after the performance and getting to meet some of the actors. I know of the people in the ensemble so it was great to congratulate her myself. Being a musical theatre fanatic I can rate this musical the highest score due to every aspect of it being next level. I can't wait to go and be in the room where it happens for the third time.
