RESIDENTS across Bexley have voiced concerns about hundreds of potholes in roads across the borough.

There are almost 900 unresolved reports of road defects including potholes across Bexley Borough, according to FixMyStreet.com

The website helps people in the United Kingdom inform local authorities of problems needing attention, such as potholes and broken street lamps.

Bexley Council said they have repaired all road defects that are reported to them within 90 days.

The council repaired 1,700 road defects between October and December 2021, according to a spokesperson for Bexley Council.

Here’s what Bexley Borough residents had to say about unfilled potholes:

A resident who reported an issue on February 21 said their 93-year-old mum almost “tipped” into the road at crossing in Crayford.

They said: “Very hazardous to disabled and for anyone pushing a pram as wheels will get caught in the hole.

“Also hazardous for cycles travelling close to curb.”

Another resident said they “tripped” and sprained their ankle after walking on the potholes during the night.

They explained: “These potholes been here for months.

“I have tripped and sprained my ankle many times crossing the road, especially at night when it’s pitch black and no lights available there.

“It is also damaging to the tyres of my car and now I have to change my tyre.”

One resident reported eight “large” potholes near Old Farm Avenue in Sidcup which they described as a “danger” to cars and cyclists.

They said: “This surface has been degrading for the last two years or more. More potholes have arisen due to not being treated and are appearing further up the road.

“Multiple fillings need to happen, or the road resurfaced as it’s a danger to cars and especially cyclists.

“It seems there were signs the road was going to be repaired but the signs seem to have been taken down and so maybe cancelled?

“It needs to go ahead before more people are hurt or bicycles and cars are damaged.”

Another resident said: “Indeed this has been getting worse for several months.

“It is the same bit where there is a central road bollard so you cannot easily go round it, it is very deep and liable to cause damage or an accident.”

A spokesperson for Bexley Council said: “We have repaired 100% of all highway defects - which includes potholes - reported to us within the agreed 90-day timescale and between October and December alone we repaired 1,700 defects.

“All potholes reported to us are assessed and repaired, with priority given to the more serious cases.”
