Was Will Smith in the wrong? or did Chris Rock rightfully deserve the slap?

Many people online have been sharing their opinions on the situation that took place on the night of the 28th of March, at The 94th annual Oscars awards. Some people believe what happened was also a publicity stunt as The Oscars were losing viewers, but this has not been proven.

I, myself thought that it was a joke as Chris is a comedian and Will is a great actor. We all saw Will laugh at Chris's joke at first, but this must've been him not realizing it before he got up on stage and hit Chris with such aggression then continued to shout, "keeps my wife's name out of your F***ing mouth!" Using such blasphemy on live television and the tone in his voice showed us that Wil was not joking around.

Could you argue that this was because of such shock that the 'joke' was said by someone he may call a long-time friend or that Chris has attacked his wife even before this, and it was enough? But you can also disagree with these and say that Chris is a comedian that has been around for a long time so this should be expected.

Across social media and news articles, there are many different opinions when talking about the situation. People on Twitter are saying 'Will Smith's marriage open' to everything except jokes' but others are also saying 'Will was right with everything that he did, he dissed Jada HIS WIFE.' Celebrities like James Corden even commented, saying how Will 'Can't take a joke'

There was a clear difference between the generations when discussing this altercation online. There were and still are memes and TikTok sounds already made by the younger generation a few minutes after what had happened. But some in the older generation used this to justify their racist opinions on the actions of black celebrities.

Overall, we are all still shocked and unsure about what happened, and this may just be for the media/public's attention.
