We all respect and are amazed by what soldiers endure in the army, but what about their partners who travel around the world with them?
Patricia Page (also known as Pat) answers some brief questions about what it was like to be a military wife, experiencing new cultures.
When asked what was your husband’s position in the army? Pat replied that her husband was a “Major - military police, special investigator.”
The following question was - what was your job at the time? Did you have one? Pat answered “No, officers wives didn’t work in those days. I was quite happy, I had three children to look after.”
What was it like for you, travelling around the world with the army? Did you enjoy it?
“Yes, I did enjoy it. Sometimes it was difficult with young children, especially my youngest who was 6 weeks old when I went to Singapore.”
How many years did you spend travelling? “My husband was in the army for 35 years, so around 15-20 years, 2 to 3 years in each place.”
The last question I asked was - what was your favourite aspect? Pat’s response was “Socialising with various people of different cultures, I did make lots of friends. But it's difficult as they are in other countries, so it was hard to keep in touch.”
