A milk delivery driver has been taken to hospital after the attempted robbery of a delivery van in Sydenham.

The incident happened at around 1am on Monday in Charleville Circus as the delivery driver left the van.

A man jumped into the van and drove off, before crashing into stationary parked cars.

The delivery driver had managed to get into the side doors of the van.

When the suspect realised the driver was in the van, he stopped the van and a fight took place between them.

The suspect then ran off and got into a waiting vehicle and fled the scene.

The delivery driver was treated for minor injuries at hospital and later discharged.

The suspect is described as white, 6ft 2ins, aged 30 to 40, short hair and he was wearing a green hi-vis jacket.

No arrests have been made.

Enquiries continue as police appeal for witnesses.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for witnesses after the attempted robbery of a milk delivery van.

"The incident happened at about 01:00hrs on Monday, 21 March on Charleville Circus, SE26.

"As the delivery driver left the van, a man jumped into the van and drove off.

"As he drove off the van collided with stationary parked cars.

"The delivery driver had managed to get into the side doors of the van.

"When he realised the driver was in the van the suspect stopped the van and a fight took place between them.

"The suspect then ran off and got into a waiting vehicle and left the scene.

"He is described as white, 6ft 2ins, aged 30 to 40, short hair and he was wearing a green hi-vis jacket.

"The delivery driver was treated for minor injuries at hospital and later discharged.

"No arrests, enquiries continue."
