Winter Wonderland is an annual event in Hyde Park that runs from mid-November to early January. It’s family friendly and promises fun for all. It’s essentially an amusement park, and has rides for all age groups, from young children to older adults. The star of the show must be the big wheel, standing at an awesome height of 70 meters, it’s the tallest transportable wheel in the world. You are in an enclosed pod, safe from the elements, with a choice of radio stations. A bird’s eye view of the park with all the lights and activity below is a beautiful sight, and truly takes your breath away.

I must admit, amusement parks have never been my cup of tea, but I nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed my Winter Wonderland experience. However, if you are prone to sensory overload, you may want to try something else because of the bright lights, loud music and busy atmosphere. Having said that, the atmosphere is exhilarating, the music well-chosen and the light displays stunning, so most would have the time of their lives.

But that’s not the only attraction. There are many bars and drink stalls, but best of all, you’re spoiled for a choice of food. From rice bowls to pulled pork, there is sure to be something to satisfy the pickiest of eaters, and the most adventurous. High quality food and drink adds to the already magical experience.

Overall, it is a marvelous family day out, and has been since it first came to life in 2007.
