Ravi Shankar, an Indian sitarist and composer became the world's best-known North Indian musician, and ended up influencing many musicians in India and throughout the world, and he gained widespread international recognition through his association with the Beatles. He died on the 11th December 2012 In California, aged 92.
The concert featured many extraordinary moments, one of them being when Sukanya Shankar, his wife, singing a duet with Dhani Harrison, son of George Harrison, as a tribute to their close relationship. Within a very short period, Harrison and Ravi Shankar drew close together, and the maestro agreed to give the Beatle private lessons on the sitar.
The pieces reflected his wide repertoire, by featuring a cellist, Dhani Harrison, a bamboo flute, and John McLaughlin, an English guitarist, bandleader and composer.
