The cost of rail prices has now risen for passengers across England which has also affected Southeastern services.

An increase of 3.8 per cent has been introduced to train fares as of March 1.

It comes after the government announced in December 2021 that train companies would be permitted to raise costs.

The average price of train tickets has now risen by 48.9 per cent since 2010, forcing passengers to pay extra for short and long-distance journeys.

A spokesperson for Southeastern said: "We understand that no one likes to see prices go up, but the government regulates the cost of train fares, including season tickets, to meet the costs of running and upkeep of Britain’s railways.

"Every pound from train fares goes back into the rail industry for running, maintaining and improving the network.

“We know that our passengers – as well as people returning to the railway – will be looking at the best value option for their journey.

"We’ve kept the price rise down on some tickets to two per cent, keeping it below inflation".

Southeastern will continue to offer "lower-priced" fares, including Kids for a Quid, off-peak fares, and discounted fares for railcard customers.

Pay as you go fares have increased by ten pence in zone one from £2.40 rising to £2.50.

The price of Day Saver tickets has also increased by 10p.

Rail fare prices were previously increased by 2.7 per cent at the start of 2020.

Southeastern will increase its advance fares with more trains to and from London.
