WHEELCHAIR users who use Walthamstow Central station have received an apology from Transport for London (TfL).

Waltham Forest London Assembly member Jennette Arnold called on TfL to apologise last month about the lack of access at the new subway which was compounded by the lifts not working.

Resident Nigel Gansell, of Markhouse Road, was also enraged by the lack of access for wheelchair users, the elderly and pregnant women.

TfL has now put up a poster apologising to passengers.

It says: "Installing new lifts at the station. We are currently working to provide power for the lifts linking the subway to the bus station and the ticket hall.

"This work is on schedule for completion in Summer 2008. A porter service is available between 7.00am to 7.00pm daily. We thank you for your patience and apologise for any inconvenience while we complete this work."
