Bromley has been revealed as the safest London borough for car drivers.

The result was revealed by car insurance website Quotezone.co.uk after the company carried out research to discover which areas of the UK are home to the safest drivers.

Bromley ranked as the 40th safest driver location in the UK based on road accident rates.

By collecting and analysing car accident statistics from across the UK, a safe driver index score was created.

Regions were ranked out of 100.

Bromley has a safe index score of 57.8/100.

However, the city of London itself is said to be one of the worst places in the UK to own a car.

Camden borough was found to have a low safety score of 38.93/100.

Meanwhile, Westminster has the highest number of vehicle accidents in the entire UK.

Westminster sees 3,308 accidents per 10,000 registered vehicles.

Quotezone.co.uk was inspired to carry out the research after significant changes to The Highway Code were recently introduced.

A spokesperson for Quotezone.co.uk said: “While individuals can take their own steps to ensure they drive safely, it takes careful driving from everybody in the area to guarantee safety.”

The safest drivers in the UK can be found in Wales, in the neighbouring regions of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Across the regions, 85 road casualties occur per one million people.

The area has a safe driver score of 86.13/100.

Blackburn with Darwen borough in Lancashire is the worst area for car accidents in the UK.

Its safety index score is 16/100.

According to Quotezone.co.uk, in 2020 there were 1,840 reported traffic collisions in the area.

There were also 380 road traffic casualties in Blackburn with Darwen.
