This play is a witty comedy about a couple who are, you guessed it, an hour and a half late, shown at Richmond theatre. Laura and Peter are played by Janie Dee and Griff Rhys Jones, who perfectly capture the role of a married couple who are very late for a dinner!

The play is set inside the couple’s house, with three doors leading off the sitting room area, which worked well with the play. The set was a tasteful, neat sitting room, however, as pictured, there is a slight twist as Laura gets fed up with such a tidy room. The outfits were very fitting too for the characters, which added to the believable aspect of the play. Laura also had a wardrobe change about halfway through the play when she marched out in her art overalls much to Peter's dismay and the audience's delight!

Throughout the show, the audience saw the chaos that followed Laura’s crisis about their future in retirement, while Peter tries to persuade her to go to this celebratory dinner. This was a light-hearted play that captures the lives of a married couple so well, I had trouble believing that they were just actors. The audience were constantly in peals of laughter as the two actors go back and forth, arguing, laughing, pulling faces. Even the program has several hilarious references to the play, such as a box collection belonging to one of Peter and Laura's friends, and a whole double page on a "Dessert trolley. Peter's friends", as Griff Rhys Jones describes everything from the sound of the trolley to the "obscure goat pyramid."!

Whilst there was not much of a plot, there was constantly different moods from the two characters, going from deep talks, to insults, to what would happen after one of them dies. The audience follows along this muddled mess of dialogue and thoughts, which was a bit confusing at times, but still easy to follow.

I would definitely recommend this play, especially to just go and have a laugh! Personally, I would say that people near the age of the two characters would enjoy this more than a younger audience as it would be more relatable and appreciated. Overall, this show was well written and was so lovely to just enjoy!
