Known globally for his unique, bright pieces of art, KAWS is considered to be one of the most inspiring artists for his time and he is known for his work in Pop Art. He has been described as an influential artist for his engagement with young people and contemporary art. Located in Hyde Park, Acute Art presents its newest exhibition in the Serpentine Galleries for all to enjoy. Brian Donnelly, (KAWS NEW FICTION) presents his work physically but also allows people to view his art using AR creating an immersive experience for all. The exhibition is Donnelly’s first major solo exhibition in London and it is in collaboration with Acute Art. Since the exhibition launched, people were able to view a digital version of the show in Fortnite and experience the show virtually from the comfort of their own homes!

As well as the Fortnite collaboration, Serpentine and KAWS use an app called Acute Art, which allows all the paintings and sculptures to come alive at home by viewers globally. By using the app, viewers are allowed to share their experience on social media making KAWS accessible to all. Acute Art allows its viewers to be transported to a digital world where they can experience a miniature version of the show; the entire show introduces AR and you can view the artwork on your phone or tablet both indoors and outdoors.

When I visited the exhibition, I was blown away by the amount of colour and vibrance KAWS managed to incorporate in his artwork and I loved the mix of paintings and sculptures. Using the app, I was able to follow the steps quickly and once I got going, I couldn’t stop taking pictures wherever I went using the AR technology as it was easy to use and allows viewers to experience art digitally as well as physically. Whilst I was there, I asked someone at the exhibition their thoughts and they said ‘I love how you are able to see the art digitally and it’s a great way for kids as well as adults to get in touch with their creative side and explore a new world!’ The exhibition has also been described as ‘a futuristic frisson to traditional works’ and it can be accessed on a variety of social media platforms.

When asked about his new exhibition, KAWS explained how it is ‘an incredibly exciting project for me’ and he loves ‘exploring new mediums for his art.’ Since the start of his career, KAWS has stood out from the crowd as he combines the worlds of art and design and he makes all his exhibits immersive and enjoyable for all. As he continues to produce his work on a large scale, KAWS is rapidly gaining fans internationally and he has had his work displayed in renowned institutions around the world.
