Are you ready? The dawn of a new era of Formula 1 is upon us and we have already have had our first taste of what this revolutionary change will be like in pre-season testing and the livery reveals.
F1 begins an exciting new chapter this year as the rulebook has been ripped up, with a radically new set of regulations coming into force – all designed to produce even more spectacular racing. It is the biggest regulation change for over 30 years, with Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull saying "I haven't seen anything like it". This results in the potential for the entire grid to be shaken up and inevitably has sparked excitement from fans across the world.
Firstly, after months of waiting patiently and wondering what the new machines would look like, every team has now unveiled its new challenger. However, F1 teams are so secretive these days and often don’t even reveal their actual cars, so liveries a lot of the time are the main focus. Which is your favourite out of the list of 10? Avdesh Dagar, an avid viewer of the sport told me "I absolutely love this Ferrari. It may be just red to a passerby but it's a nostalgic throwback to the 90s cars with the darker red and black wings which just work so well".
So, what are the exact F1 2022 rule changes? The exact changes are incredibly complicated, but, in short, the next-generation 2022 F1 cars still use hybrid-V6 powertrains but rely less on downforce and more on ground effect than the racers from 2021. The result, Formula 1 hopes, will be closer racing, as drivers have complained for years that overtaking is too difficult with cars highly sensitive to the wake of the car ahead. All in all, 2022 is set to be an incredible season.
