Social media has a special way of making everyone's lives seem so perfect. This makes it hard for certain people to realise that social media isn't real. I know in the past that i've scrolled through TikTok and have been jealous of people being productive whilst I’m just sitting in my bed doing nothing all day- but the one thing I would tell my past self is that I am only watching 15 seconds of someones life and have no idea what goes on beyond those 15 seconds. I know there are a lot of people like me who are also TikTok users that feel bad about themselves or feel like they are not living the ideal “teenage life” that they should be but I can guarantee that this is a universal feeling. There's been an ongoing trend on TikTok which is the “photo dump” trend whereby people will select the best or most fun looking pictures that they had taken that month, and cram them all into one video to show off what they did. Each time I go to the comments of these TikToks I always notice people commenting things like “Must be nice” or “If only I didn’t have strict parents”. I don't think this trend is necessarily a negative thing and I too can admit that I have partaken in the trend but I am also aware that it can be hard to watch these TikToks and feel like you're missing out. But once again, social media isn't real- people can shape their lives to make it as perfect as possible for other people to see.
