‘A number’ is the Old Vic’s new shows, performed by Lennie James as Salter ( the father) as well as Paapa Essiedu playing the role of Michael Black/Bernard 1/Bernard 2. The running time is approximately 1hour 5 minutes and the audience targeted are ages 14+. It is running from the 24 January to 19 March 2022.  Angel Mukoro watched the play on Thursday 3rd February and she said “The experience at the Old Vic was spectacular, the performance was lively and I found each scene mysteriously intriguing.”

The main concept of the play is the basis that every parent makes mistakes and Salter certainly makes many of them. He makes mistakes and 35 years later these mistakes are revealed. His son who fought he was an only child finds out he is just part of a number of the same children. He discovers he had an older brother who he then meets and they do not get along manipulating the audience to try and pick  a side.

As the play goes on the audience is intrigued and left shocked after some unexpected light changes which lead to a change of character and meeting a different son every time and hearing their different life experiences and stories.

Overall the play is a variety of drama, mystery and tragedy which transfers you to a different reality and is definitely worth seeing.
