A £30,000 grant programme has been confirmed by Bromley Council to decorate the high street and shopping parades for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations.

Grants of up to £3,000 are available for business and community groups within the borough for the celebrations in June 2022.

This comes after the Queen became the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum jubilee, marking 70 years of her services.

Residents who are interested in decorating their local high street must apply through the council website by February 23.

Councillor Peter Morgan, executive councillor for renewal, recreation and housing said: “Decorating our high streets will help to immerse Bromley in this momentous occasion to honour the outstanding service provided by Her Majesty.

“It is amazing to think that it is exactly 70 years ago now that Her Majesty ascended to the throne, which I am delighted we will be celebrating in June.

“I am sure we all look forward to residents and businesses coming together in the spirit of celebration to help decorate our borough to match the joyous mood of the jubilee.

“There are many further details still to share on our planned celebrations, as we seek to commemorate our national and local history from throughout Her Majesty’s reign.”

Local business groups, residents’ associations and civic societies can apply for the grant.

The high street decorations are planned to be displayed between May 23 and June 12.
