A man has been taken to hospital after a car crash where he was found trapped inside a van in Dartford.

Emergency services were called to the scene yesterday evening (February 14) at around 5.15pm to reports of a traffic crash on Gorse Hill.

The driver of the van was treated for injuries at the scene, where he was later taken to a London hospital for further medical treatment.

Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to cut and spread parts of the vehicle to rescue the man.

The road reopened shortly after 1.30am this morning (February 15) after recovering the vehicles and removing oil spillage from the carriageway.

Enquiries into the circumstances continue.

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Gorse Hill, Dartford to a head on collision involving a car and a van.

“Crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to cut and spread parts of the vehicle to create space in order to rescue a single male casualty that had been trapped inside the van.

“The casualty was left in the care of HEMS and SECAmb.”

A further statement from Kent Police said: “Kent Police was called at around 5.15pm on Monday 14 February 2022, regarding a collision involving a van and a car on the A20 near Farningham.

“Officers, South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene where the van driver was treated for injuries.

“He was taken to a London hospital for further medical attention.

“The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.

“It reopened at around 1.35am on Tuesday 15 February once the vehicles had been recovered and debris, along with an oil spillage, removed from the carriageway.

“Enquiries into the circumstances are continuing.”
