A 21-year-old man who was stabbed to death on his way to buy milk in Eltham has been named.

Bartosz Wyrzykowski, known as Bartek, was attacked on Lionel Road at around 5.10pm on Tuesday, February 8. He died in hospital a short time later.

According to reports, he was ambushed by two men who jumped out of a car.

A GoFundMe launched by a friend of his mum, Anna, who was at the scene as CPR was performed, has described the circumstances surrounding his murder.

The page, written by Ola Bradford, reads: “Bartek was attacked on Tuesday, February 8, outside of a local grocery shop. He went out with his girlfriend to get some milk.

“Following unsuccessful attempts of saving his life, he sadly passed away shortly after.

“He was 21 years old and had his whole life ahead of him, about to start a new job.

“His family and friends are devastated and in shock.

“I would like to help them in their grief and therefore set up this GoFundMe page to help with the funeral costs.

“His parents are hardworking and honest people who always tried to help others.”

The GoFundMe has already raised more than £6,000.

Police have launched a murder investigation but are yet to make any arrests.

Dan Thorpe, leader of Greenwich Council, said: “A young life lost and a family broken. Terrible news this morning.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone in Greenwich will be with this young man’s family and friends.

“If you know anything at all about this murder please get in touch.”

A crime scene remains in place and is likely to for some time.

A Met spokesperson said: "Anyone with information, however limited they may think it is, should contact police on 101 with the reference 5622/08FEB.

"Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
