Officers from the Met’s North East command executed a warrant at the address in Sewardstone Road on Thursday, February 3.

They were supported by Territorial Support Group, the Status Dogs unit, the RSPCA and other partner agencies.

A number of adult dogs and puppies thought to fall under the category of prohibited breeds were seized at the venue.

They were taken to kennels for assessment.

In addition, a firearm, combat knives and stolen plant machinery were recovered during the search.

Three men who are 28, 30 and 35 were arrested on suspicion of dangerous dog offences, handling stolen goods, possession of a firearm and possession of offensive weapons in a private place.

All three are currently released under investigation.

Enquiries are ongoing.

PC Tom Landels, of the Met’s North East Command, said: “There was a significant amount of property and a number of dogs seized during this operation.

“The plant machinery will be returned to the lawful owners and the dogs will undergo assessment while they are cared for at a police kennel facility.

“Dog fighting is brutal, fundamentally cruel and is an organised crime that operates secretly with no regard for animal welfare.

“Anyone with information concerning dangerous dogs or dog fighting should contact police or Crimestoppers without delay.”
