Hamptons first game was a convincing win against University College School(UCS) with Hampton dominating UCS in all aspects of play.

 

Up next was the notorious rugby school, St Benedicts. The game was close through the early exchanges before Hampton scored two quick tries. They added a third later on in the twenty minute format of game which the tournament was played under. All three tries were converted with Hampton recording a 21-0 victory.

 

Hampton’s next test was against a stern Gunnersbury side, who had a recorded a strong win against St Benedicts earlier in the tournament  The game was played in close quarters throughout the opening exchanges before Hampton crossed in each corners to raise the score line to 12-0. Gunnersbury retaliated and scored off the back of a scrum resulting in a nervy finish for Hampton. Hampton recorded a 12-5 victory.

 

In the final game of the round robin format, Hampton was pitted against The London Oratory School. Oratory had just lost in a closely fought game against Gunnersbury so were seeking revenge.

 

The game was scrappy in early exchanges with many tired bodies on the field after over a hour of compete each rugby. Hampton finally broke the deadlock going in under the posts and then converting to give a 7-0 lead. The London Oratory School fought back through sustained forward play eventually succumbing though to a resilient Hampton defence. Hampton took a late penalty to see the game off with Hampton victors 10-0.

 

Hampton lifted the Middlesex Cup repeating the triumph of the 2019-2020 season Under15 side. The overall tournament was a fantastic spectacle of boys rugby in Middlesex and a great day for all involved.
