Be a man. They say. Or stop crying, you’re not a girl. They say. Why don’t we raise our voices to show that this is wrong? Stereotypes are wrong and so is sexism. Many people may believe that there are differences between men and women. But the only difference is that.... Yes, you heard me, NOTHING. So where do these differences and stereotypes come from?

One of the reasons can be a person’s upbringing. Young men are taught from day 1 to ‘not cry like a girl’ or are asked ‘are you a girl?’ when all that they are doing is expressing their feelings like a normal human being. This is why these men grow up depending on a female member. It is said that 60% of men don’t participate in cooking/laundry etc. But this needs to change.

Every day more and more children are entering this world and all of them are equal, aren’t they? Nobody implies that all men are like this. Because they aren’t. But it’s more about the thought of women belonging in the kitchen, having to take care of their family/children and generally being inferior to men that needs to change. This mentality is WRONG. All women should be able to aspire and be who they want to be. They can be a footballer if they want to. They can be an engineer if they want to. And the same for men- They can be a cook if they want to, they can be a teacher if they want to. All that feminists want is for men and women (+more) to all be equal not that men should be considered inferior to women or vice versa.

Nobody may realise but even in the 21st century, there are billions and billions of people who are facing sexism. It is said that nearly 90% of the world population are biased against women. One example can be that even though it is the 21st century, Women are paid less than Men. Thus, this matter should be discussed and not overlooked. If the woman is doing the exact same job as the male, she shouldn’t be paid less. That’s it. That should be the mindset.

As the amazing feminist, Malala Yousafzai, once said ‘I raise my voice not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard. We cannot succeed when half of us are held back’ And this is true...

Everyone should work together to change the typical stereotypes and sexism that women (and men) still face to this day. All men and women should stand together and fight for the wrong that still exists. Everyone together can succeed but when someone is alone, it is way harder for them to raise their voice.

Therefore, when we stand together, we will build each other up and hopefully this will then lead to a better future with no sexism towards anybody.
