SOUTHEND United head coach Kevin Maher praised Sam Dalby after the striker held his nerve to score a late match-winning penalty against King’s Lynn.

Dalby’s injury time spot kick secured the Shrimpers to a 2-1 victory at Roots Hall.

And Maher feels Dalby is continuing to improve in attack.

“There was pressure on the penalty for sure but Sam took it well and it’s brilliant because I think he’s come on loads as a player,” said Maher.

“He’s grown in confidence and looks fitter and stronger.

“He’s a good size, he can run and he’s getting goals now too.

"I’m delighted for him.”

Dalby joined Blues in the summer and has now scored seven goals in 24 games this season.
