The Earth is heating up. The climate is changing. These changes need to be stopped.

There are so many ways to help, big and small. Even what may be seen as the smallest change in your lifestyle that you may not even notice could actually make a good impact on our environment.

Now that COVID restrictions have been eased and restaurants are open, going out for a meal every once and a while has once again become a bit more “normal”. Lots of the time portion sizes can be too big at restaurants, leaving us unable to finish the meal. This may seem innocent, right? But have you ever thought about how much food this wastes and the damage that it has on the environment? This perfectly good food that could be eaten will end up in a landfill site where it will decompose ad release methane which is a greenhouse gas. So next time you are at a restaurant and can’t finish all of the food, simply ask if you can take the food home; either in a takeaway box provided by that restaurant or even better by bringing your own. Not only does this stop the perfectly good meal being thrown to waste, but it also means you have some great food for the next day!

Another easy way to do your bit is to take your own fabric bags with you when shopping. This could be a backpack, a handbag, a tote bag, or a longer use fabric bag from supermarkets. Plastic bags take years and years to decompose (it takes 1,000 years for a plastic bag to degrade in landfill!) and when they eventually do decompose they release toxic substances into the surrounding environment. Next time you go do the weekly food shop or go shopping go for anything, try bringing your own bag. This will reduce the amount of plastic bags you use and can also be more fun and fashionable.

These are only two out of many ways that you can do your bit. For more ways to help out, do some research online where there are hundreds of more articles and so much information.
