SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher felt the Shrimpers fully deserved their 2-1 victory against King’s Lynn Town.
A stoppage time penalty from striker Sam Dalby secured all three points for Blues at Roots Hall.
And Maher thought his side were worthy winners.
“I think the better team won in the end and I’m delighted for everyone at the club,” said Maher.
“We’re moving in the right direction and it’s been a while since we’ve won three league games in a row.
“I’m delighted and from the first whistle we were on the front foot trying to win the game.
“It wouldn’t go in in the first half but it was good we didn’t panic.”
The Shrimpers found themselves 1-0 down at the break.
But Matt Dennis equalised early on in the second half before Dalby’s controversial late penalty which angered King’s Lynn boss Tommy Widdrington.
“I understand he’s going to be frustrated,” said Maher.
“To be fair to them they’ve given him everything and it looked as though they were going to get a point.
“You’d be frustrated if it was the other way round but we deserved the three points and it was another brilliant crowd.
“It was a bit like the old days at the end there.
“I’ve experienced it before and I’m glad the players are starting too as well now.”
But Maher is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
“We won’t get carried away,” said the Blues boss.
“We can enjoy it now and the fans should go home happy and enjoy their night.
“But we’ll be back in tomorrow to get ready for a tough week ahead.
