Some train services are being delayed this morning due to “urgent repairs” in New Cross.

The issue was reported at around 3am today (January 18) where engineers discovered a broken rail.

The repairs have now been completed and some trains can operate normally through the area.

Disruption to other train services is expected to last until 10am.

Passengers are being asked to “allow extra time” and plan their journey using the journey planner.

Southeastern rail said passengers can still use the London Underground services between London Victoria, Embankment (for London Charing Cross), Charing Cross, Waterloo, Southwark, London Bridge and London Cannon Street.

Passengers can also use the Docklands Light railway between Lewisham, Greenwich, and Woolwich as an alternative.

Some services will also be cancelled on the following routes:

Gravesend / Dartford to London Charing Cross via Sidcup, Bexleyheath, or Woolwich

Hayes to London Charing Cross

Sevenoaks to London Charing Cross via Grove Park

Southeastern (@Se_Railway) tweeted:” NEW: Overnight, @NetworkRailSE found a damaged rail near #NewCross that needed to be repaired.

“As two of the four lines have to be closed to complete repairs, we have had to reduce the number of trains to and from Charing Cross this morning.

“ONGOING: You can use the following routes at no extra cost:

“London Underground between Victoria, London Bridge, Charing Cross, Waterloo & Cannon St.

“Docklands Light Railway between Lewisham, Greenwich & Woolwich.

“Repairs near #NewCross have been completed, however because of the number of trains affected services will be disrupted until approximately 10:00.

Network Rail Kent and Sussex (@NetworkRailSE) also tweeted: “We’re sorry if your @Se_Railway train was diverted unexpectedly today.

“If you’re wondering why, our engineers discovered a broken rail at around 3am which we obviously had to fix.

“Everything is back to normal now and but it will take time for the timetable to get back on track.

“Here’s the offending broken rail.

“Our engineers discovered it during routine maintenance overnight, but they could not fix it immediately as they had already started their planned job and would have risked more disruption this morning.

“So we had to organise a two-hour block of the line from 5am to get this rail fixed, which is the reason for today’s delays.

“Once again we’re sorry for the disruption, please keep checking with @Se_Railway for live updates as services get back to normal.”
