Many Brits going on holiday this Christmas were nervous about returning to the ski slopes when they reopened, but ski resorts in the Alps have taken new measures to keep their patrons safe.

This photo, taken in Courmayeur, Italy, makes it easy to see why Brits are so desperate to return to the picturesque mountains. Before skiers can board the first cable car up the mountain, they must wear a mandatory FFP2 mask and scan their COVID pass, which the unvaccinated can obtain by testing regularly at local pharmacies. Upon reaching the top, there are safety warnings in Italian, English, and French regarding keeping masks on and staying one meter away from other skiers. Hand sanitiser is available at every chair lift, and in order to enter any restaurants or cafes on the mountain, COVID, or “green”, passes must be presented again.

Julia Pierce, who has been skiing in Switzerland, says “I felt much safer with all the new measures, and am so happy that we can finally hit the slopes again!”

Other Alpine countries, such as Austria and France, are enforcing similar safety regulations to allow ski enthusiasts to continue enjoying the sport they love. Skiing is made even safer as the mountains are open spaces in the fresh air, further reducing the risk of infection. Thus, any Brits wanting to ski this season can do so safe in the knowledge that protective measures have been adopted by ski resorts, allowing them to enjoy their vacation without undue worry.
