Burglaries have been getting more frequent due to recent times. The coronavirus had hit the UK pretty hard and lockdowns end seemed to have instigated a rise in burglaries (in certain areas) after a rather big decline in incidents over recent years. Shops and houses were being broken into, ransacked and cleaned off of any valuable property. Burglaries aren't necessarily prevalent and are often disregarded due to how improbable they are and the lack of damage it deals. Instead, it should be made aware that there is still a real chance this could happen.

The amount of reported burglaries in the UK during April 2021 amounts to 16,294. During June 2021, a total of 17,361 recorded burglaries. This shows an increase of 6.5% in number from just one month; a clear representation of an increase of burglaries. Crime overall was undergoing a rather significant decrease in offences over the last few years but COVID 19 has seemingly brought an (albeit small and temporary) increase in theft and burglaries. With restrictions lessening, it allows for more maneuverability in stealing.

On the 3rd of August 2021, a recipient impacted by theft in Hounslow had this to share: "It was shocking, going downstairs to see my car window smashed. It really opened my eyes to what lengths people will go in order to get some more money." Someone who has previously never been robbed or had his property vandalised had 'randomly' had his car window smashed and roughly £30 worth of equipment (from inside the car) stolen; this left the recipient with fees for window reparations and stolen possessions. It's irrelevant what kind of person you are, as long as you leave somewhat valuable items visible and accessible to the common pedestrian, there is a chance it'll be stolen.

While the chances of you being a victim to these problems are low, especially considering that the rate of reported crimes is dropping, it's always a good idea to keep an eye out and maintain some level of security over your property. It should also always be noted that health and safety is the biggest priority in any situation.
