A woman from Eltham has been fined for dropping a cigarette outside a McDonald’s restaurant.

Mercedes Green pleaded guilty to throwing or dropping the cigarette outside the McDonald’s in Eltham High Street on April 22 this year.

The 39-year-old was consequently ordered to pay £80 in costs during a hearing at Bexley Magistrates’ Court on November 22.

This included a £46 fine and a surcharge of £34 to fund victim services.

The defendant, of Dunblane Road in Eltham, must pay this by December 20.

Eltham High Street McDonald’s is located in a place in which section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applies, according to the court.

This defines littering as the throwing down, dropping or depositing of any litter on any land and leaving it.
