For one night only, Danson Park was transformed into a kaleidoscope of lights. Flashing bulbs illuminated each funfair ride; glow sticks danced in the hands of enthusiastic children, and fusions of sparks lit up the sky during the highly anticipated firework show.

On the 6th of November 2021, the annual Danson Park Fireworks display took place, in the London Borough of Bexley. This Bonfire Night spectacle has been running for over 60 years, and after COVID-19 restrictions prevented the 2020 event from taking place, people were eager to attend.

At 6pm, the park opened up to the public, with food and drink stands lining the area. The park was filled with game stalls, such as hook-a-duck, priced at £5 for one go, with many prizes and toys up for grabs. A selection of fairground rides, suitable for both children and adults, were available, with choices of Bumper Cars, and Carousels.

Live music was played throughout the night, with performances from local bands: Amelia Street and Paisley Park, covering songs like “Smells like Teen Spirit” and “Mamma Mia”. Made in Kent Radio helped sponsor this event, holding radio competitions and giveaways on the stage, as well as introducing each act. At approximately 9pm, the Mayor of Bexley then took the stage and alongside the crowd, partook in a 10 second countdown, before starting the long-awaited fireworks display. Thousands gathered to watch it, as a music medley accompanied the show of spectacular explosives.

This fantastic event raised a total of £103.5k according to the organisers from the Welling Round Table. In a Facebook post, they have outlined how they’ve donated “£1000 [to] the Christmas tree at the Cannon in Welling High Street, £1000 to Bexley Food Bank, and the sum of £2000 for a defibrillator to be installed at Danson Park Boathouse.” They intend to support “local charities, organisations and individuals,” with this money.

This event was incredible and catered to all ages, with game stands for children, fast fairground rides for teens, and food and music for all. Danson Park Fireworks will return again next year on the 5th November 2022 for their next exciting Bonfire Night display.
