There’s nothing quite like a mother’s word of advice- whether it’s asked for or not.

They can nag, complain and tell some awkward truths.

But it comes from the right place- it comes from a place of love.

Well, most of the time.

We asked News Shopper readers to tell us the best advice they ever received from their dearest mums.

Here’s what they had to say: Sian Jones said: “Respect, that’s what my mum taught me.”

Rose Thursfield said: “Never marry for money, only love.”

Stephano Cassano said: “If you are the youngest you can do no wrong.”

Sylvia Webb said: “Don’t sit on a public toilet seat.

“That was donkeys years ago and I’ve never sat on one since, not even my own.”

Bella Boo Hutchins said: “Never give up in life.”

Olive Knaggs said: “Don’t wish your life away.

“When you’re my age you’ll realise what I mean.”

Jason Boon said: “Work hard and take care of yourself.”

Kelly Burford said: “Be polite, as manners cost nothing.”

Lisa Barber said: “Bring your plates down.”

Chantelle Lee said: “Be independent.”

Kathleen Ankers Walker said: “Use works to kill with kindness if you’re faced with an argument.”

Jason Ware said: “If you can’t do anything about it personally, don’t stress over it.”

Bob Baker said: “If you fall over and break your leg, don’t come running to me.”

Carla Douglas said: “Get a good education and be independent.”

Tiffany Louise Attley said: “She said, always see everything through to the end, no lose ends.

That means nothing can come back to bite you then.”

And as the saying goes; Mothers know best.
