180 The Strand is known for its innovative and unique exhibitions which draws people from all over the world to see. One of their most recent displays is called ‘The Lux Exhibition’ and it features several talented artists.

The exhibition has been described as ‘a new wave of contemporary art’ which I believe perfectly summarises what it’s all about. Designed by SUUM in collaboration with Fact and 180 Studios, Lux exhibition combines 12 incredibly creative artists to explore the world of virtual art and it allows people to read a story through a variety of images. It is one of the Strand’s most popular exhibits and continues to introduce people into new forms of art. The display features new 180 Studio artists such as Es Devlin, Hito Steyerl and Julian Knxx alongside the captivating artwork 'Renaissance Generative Dreams' by Refik Anadol, and enthralling works by Carsten Nicolai, Cao Yuxi, Cecilia Bengolea and Universal Everything.

Upon my visit, I noticed immediately the bright lights and the immersive art created by the artists. I was keen to find out what this exhibition had in store and how the use of technology, sensory stimulation and colour spectrums would draw me in; suffice to say I was not disappointed! I asked one of the visitors at the exhibition what she thought, and she said ‘I’ve been to 180 Studios before, but I have never experienced something like this. It was a magical experience which I would recommend to everyone of all ages! The staff there were friendly and helpful when directing me around and I thoroughly enjoyed myself!’ I also asked her what makes this display stand out from others, and she replied ‘The artists use cutting-edge designs and ideas to present their work and the use of technology creates a new experience for those watching.’

The 13 instillations in LUX use the latest audio-visual technologies to create a world full of interactive art everyone can enjoy. By doing this, it unlocks a new way of thinking about ordinary things around us. In collaboration with LG, 180 Studios were able to produce a series of art inspired by everyday life and our surroundings. In all the pieces of art, each tells a different story; from a wilting rose to a dazzling carousel. Discussing the exhibition, Dr Jiyoon Lee [LUX curator and director of SUUM] describes the exhibit as ‘an optical illusion which creates a new kind of artistic experiences’. The LUX display is the second in LG’s ongoing SELF-LIT GALLERY series in the UK and it has been described as one of ‘the 8 must-see installations at London Design Festival.’ LUX is by far one of the most curated exhibitions I have seen and I would definitely go again!
