The Omicron Variant. It’s been in the news lots. We’ve probably all been bombarded about the science behind the virus - but what does this new variant really mean for us?

The Omicron Variant is the new mystery variant that (we believe, as of now) originated in Southern Africa. However, we do not know what exactly is different about it in terms of transmissibility and fatality and how it will affect those who are vaccinated or who have had Covid-19 before. However, with the evidence that is known, we suspect that it may be more transmissible than other variants of the virus.

However, we as a community should not panic, or become anxious, as we do not know anything about this virus and so we do not know what it does or how dangerous it is. Therefore, we should see it in the best light so that we do not become scared and start chaos on the streets. If we remain calm and are compliant with big health organisations such as WHO and the government, this will allow the outer world to research into the variant and see what it does and if we are compliant with what the government says, then we may be able to avoid this strain of the virus, due to increased mask wearing by more people, for example.

Therefore, in conclusion, we as a group of people in the community, in order to help those who are in need of urgent care or are at high risk, must try our best to be as safe as possible for them and for our own loved ones.
