Covid - 19.

It hit the UK in the first month of 2021 and since then has had the nation in a tight grip.

Restrictions started out in March when the first lockdown was announced. It meant that only essential workers weren’t at home and that all businesses and schools were closed. This had quite a severe impact on the economy, businesses and the learning of students.

We had two other lockdowns after with the latest one allowing schools to remain open during it. Things are now progressively going back to normal, but Covid has left a permanent mark on pupils across the globe.

Online learning meant that many children were unable to get adequate help from teachers, and that those without the proper technology could not complete work set to the same standard as normal. Many families were forced to share one piece of technology between them. Though some schools did supply computers, it was still a struggle faced by many.

Because of the wide differences in the ways that schools dealt with covid some people were able to carry on as normal, while others learning ground to a halt. This could lead to varied results in exams when the time comes, as those disadvantaged the most by covid could score lower than others.

Many people felt like they missed out on lots of opportunities and precious learning time. With students being thrown into exams it can be an extremely stressful time, which could lead to people struggling with mental health.

Not only did covid lead to us missing out on school, but also on vital life experiences. Many children have not been able to do the normal things they should be able to do, like go shopping or meet up with friends.

This is what Jadonne Meredith Smith thinks about how she was affected by covid   “ I tried to do work but I found it hard to do because I wasn't used to the new format. I felt like it was harder to get help from teachers online.” Jadonne is not alone in her thoughts as many also believe this.

With the prospect of another lockdown being imposed many people are worried.

So, what do you think? Did covid mean you learnt less?

Do you feel you have missed out on anything?

What effect do you think it will have on us and our futures?
