Firstly, please introduce yourself to all our readers, who are you? What do you do?

I'm Jas Bamra and I am a Rapid Transformational Therapy Practitioner. I work with the subconscious mind and I help people who have lost loved ones to navigate the grief, and its presenting issues, so that they can live a fully present life again. My aim is to allow people to express their grief that they may not have had a chance to after their loss.

So I understand that you are a trained hypnotherapist practitioner, how did that come about?

I was always fascinated by the working of the mind. Over the years I was always interested in modalities such as NLP, CBT, and even meditation and mindfulness. Rapid Transformational Therapy came to me when I did a course through the Mind Valley community and this course was run by Marisa Peer. She is the founder of Rapid Transformational Therapy and the course was all about looking at our lives from different angles and using our minds to improve these various areas. I was fascinated at how I could tell my mind to do something and repeat certain instructions, and my mind would then listen. Using this kind of therapy and hypnotherapy I was able to begin to see changes happening within my work, within relationships, and even my health and well-being.

So when I realised that Marisa Peer was training people to do the work that she was doing, I knew I was in the right place, because this is something that I could see myself doing. I've always had a passion to help people to become the best version of themselves and using something that I'd actually tried out and had fantastic success with. I knew I would be on the right track.

What exactly is hypnotherapy? How does it help your clients?

Hypnotherapy allows clients to reach a deeply relaxed state where they are able to then dialogue with, or speak to their subconscious mind and ask the questions that may be related to any presenting issue that they have. Hypnotherapy allows you to go back to experiences and events that may have caused certain things and beliefs to come up in your life. They're able to get to the root cause of what may be presenting, by going back and seeking the answers directly from your subconscious in a very safe and rapid way. For example, if somebody has a fear of water perhaps it was something that happened to them when they were very young.

Some people may think of hypnosis as something that can be scary, almost like magic. Why do you think that people think this?

It is true that hypnotherapy has had a bad name because you see things on TV and entertainment, which gives it that viewpoint. But hypnotherapy is actually very safe. In fact, when you are in hypnosis, I cannot make you say or do something that you are not ready or willing to do. When you are in hypnotherapy you're actually more in control of what you are seeing and experiencing than normal.

What is the most common issue that clients come to you for?

I niche in grief but I have clients who come to me for all kinds of issues such as anxiety, depression, lack of self-confidence, and lack of ability to speak up, visibility issues, and even physical issues.

What do you think needs to be done for more mental health awareness in the future?

I am very passionate about speaking out about mental health and I openly share my own life story with people. I think we need to normalize speaking about mental health and mental well-being, people still have that taboo or stigma around mental health. We have to remember that just as much as we look after our physical help, we need to look after our mental health as well regardless of whether we are young or old. We all have issues that come up in our lives at different stages and phases. If we start to normalise speaking out about these issues and then reach out for help without fear of being stigmatised then I believe that mental health awareness will become the norm. Then people will actually feel happy and comfortable asking for help when they need it.
